Grading & Site Prep in Teton Valley

Grading is the quiet trade that decides whether everything else lasts. A pad that is flat and true saves the concrete crew a day. A lot that sheds water keeps your basement dry. A driveway crowned and ditched right does not wash into the county road every time it rains. Bad Badger Dirt Works grades building sites, driveways, and whole lots across Victor, Driggs, and the rest of Teton Valley, and we do it with an eye on where the water goes long after we leave.

Most of our grading work falls into two buckets: prepping raw or rough ground for a build, and fixing surfaces that have gone bad — a rutted lane, a lot that ponds, a pad left rough by another crew. Either way the goal is the same: the right slope, a compacted base, and drainage that carries runoff away instead of letting it sit.

Site prep for a new build

Before the forms go in, the site has to be right. We strip and stockpile topsoil, cut and fill to bring the pad to the planned elevation, and compact the subgrade in lifts so nothing settles unevenly under your footings. We set the surrounding grade so water sheds away from the structure, rough in the driveway line, and leave the site clean and ready for the next trade. Get this stage right and the concrete, framing, and finish crews all move faster.

Driveways and private lanes

Teton Valley driveways take a beating from frost, runoff, and snow plows. We regrade washboarded and rutted gravel lanes, re-crown them so water runs to the ditch instead of down the wheel tracks, add and shape base gravel, and build new driveways and private roads from the subgrade up. A driveway that is crowned and ditched correctly needs far less maintenance and survives mud season in far better shape.

Drainage and runoff control

Grading and drainage are the same job. When we shape a surface we are deciding where every drop of rain and snowmelt ends up. We cut ditches, crown roads, build swales, and set positive drainage around buildings and pads so runoff leaves the property under control. If you already have standing water or a lot that turns to soup in spring, we can regrade to fix it.

Grading cost turns on how much material has to move, whether we are importing gravel or structural fill, access, and site conditions. We do not quote it blind — we walk the property, mark the scope with you, and hand you a written number and a start window. If the ground surprises us, you hear about it first.
